The Island Walk

The Island Walk was conceptualized by members of the not-for-profit organization Prince Edward Island Trails Inc. (Island Trails) and is an initiative of this volunteer-based organization.

CHALLENGE: In order to develop a tourism product with a presence that is on par with other well-known North American hiking trails like the East Coast Trail, Fundy Trail Parkway/Fundy Footpath, West Coast Trail, Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail, the client needed a completely new website build including trail segments, itineraries and mapping functionality.

SOLUTION: Working closely with our project partners at Versatile Management Group and The Lowther Group, TechnoMedia developed a website and photography that positions The Island Walk as a world-class experience.

The Island Walk website is a showcase project with continuous improvements based on a deep understanding of the product and direct communications with participant inquiries.

The website has great Search Engine Optimization and the best Content Management System available. It is responsive to provide an optimal viewing experience across a wide range of devices including mobile phones for hikers on the go, as well as tablets and desktop computers. The website’s plan page has everything you need to plan your Island Walk adventure including a link to the Komoot app for a navigation.

The website also includes an interactive map utilizing Open Street Map, map segments, sections, itineraries and partner listings. Walkers and cyclists can share their Island Walk stories on the website blog via a “Share Your Island Walk Story” online form.

In 2025, we introduced our AI Agent “Isla” to help visitors with their inquiries. It is the first of its kind AI Agent. The first in the tourism and hospitality industry on PEI, and as far as we know most likely Canada.

The website content and imagery is organized in a way that informs and educates visitors interested in long-distance walking treks on Prince Edward Island.

The Island Walk has been covered by numerous media outlets including The Globe and Mail, CBC, National Geographic and more.
